A vote for Connie ‘Tie’ Gutierrez
October 18, 2024
I first met Thousand Oaks City Council District 5 candidate Connie “Tie” Gutierrez when she was running her small business on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Her store was a family-run community space that welcomed and was supportive of everyone.
What Tie and her family created was an environment that allowed our most cherished values to flourish and our connections to one another to thrive. Tie helped foster the freedom to be ourselves, the opportunity to explore our creativity and the tools to bring prosperity into our lives.
This is exactly what she’ll do for our city if elected to City Council.
She understands that public safety begins with making sure everyone in our city has what they need to take care of their families and their homes. Tie’s focus on our city’s livability has already been demonstrated, and given the opportunity to share her ability to nurture the best parts of ourselves, she will help create a safer and more resilient city.
Her candidacy isn’t about gimmicks, spending the most money or littering our streets with campaign signs so that parts of our city look like the Vegas Strip. It’s about trust, honesty and open communication, which are fundamental values that we all look for in leadership.
Tie supports our schools and doesn’t seek to undermine them with bogus school voucher programs. She acknowledges the importance of science and doesn’t deny the basic facts behind the dangers of environmental degradation. Her policies would help improve the air we breathe and preserve the open space we all love.
Let’s bring our community together and reject the advocacy of projects that seek to divide us in 2025 and beyond. I was born and raised in the Conejo Valley, I live in City Council District 5 and I’m voting for Connie “Tie” Gutierrez.

Gutierrez understands the needs of District 5
August 16, 2024
In this year’s City Council District 5 election I am supporting Tie Gutierrez.
As a 26-year-resident of the heart of Thousand Oaks, she understands the needs of the 5th District and the needs of the city as a whole.
Her commitment to community is exactly the unifying leadership that a city needs and her sharp business acumen will translate into making wise decisions on the council.
While collaborating with her on a community event, I witnessed firsthand how she carefully crafts solutions quickly and efficiently.
Last but not least, Tie truly cares about people and listens to their concerns. That is the sort of leader that Thousand Oaks needs and I will be casting my vote for Tie Gutierrez.

Gutierrez shares love of community
August 23, 2024
I first met Connie Tie Gutierrez when she ran for the Conejo Recreation and Park District board of directors in 2022.
Although she and my nephew were opponents in the race, she never treated him as such.
Instead, she approached the situation with a sense of solidarity, recognizing that they both shared a deep love for the community and a desire to give back.
I’ve seen Ms. Gutierrez work alongside others to host events, demonstrating her strong ability to work well with people.
This is one of the reasons I will be casting my vote for Connie Tie Gutierrez in November.

Park would be a boon for ever-evolving T.O.
June 14, 2024
This letter is in response to the May 30 article “Council approves latest T.O. Blvd. mixed-use development proposal.” Ventura County has been my home for 31 years. I’ve lived in the same Thousand Oaks neighborhood off Hodencamp and Hillcrest for the last 26 years, where I now raise my own son.
I was so excited to learn with this T.O. Blvd. development the Thousand Oaks community will gain a park within walking distance of my home.
While my inner child may miss the nostalgia of Stu’s pumpkin patch and tree lot in future years, our city staff delivered a thorough presentation.
I appreciated the consideration put into the project. Both the requester and city staff presented solutions to the floodplain portion of the lot and were mindful of the two mature oak trees that have long anchored the corner lot.
Of course, I’m most excited about the two green-space parks being donated in partnership with our recreation and park district.
I’m very impressed overall by our staff, mayor and council members voting on the recommendation unanimously in agreement.
As a local business owner I’ve enjoyed observing the evolution of our town and T.O. Boulevard, much of which I celebrated though it was outside of my neighborhood.
Cheers to the future of our town.

Gutierrez has right priorities for council
September 20, 2024
I served on the Conejo Valley school board from 2008 to 2020. We endured painful budget cuts brought on by the Great Recession, but that pain paled in comparison to the culture wars that followed. The good governance priorities of our elected body were compromised.
With the addition of Kevin McNamee to the City Council four years ago, I’ve seen the Thousand Oaks City Council being pulled into the same kind of culture wars I experienced on the school board.
Mr. McNamee has used his position to make unfounded attacks on our public schools and to disparage lower-income residents. He has no good ideas for addressing real challenges the city faces.
Today, voters have a choice. They can choose Connie “Tie” Gutierrez for City Council. Tie is a 31-year resident of Ventura County who has lived in the Thousand Oaks District 5 neighborhood for 26 years. She is a mother, business owner and volunteer who is actively involved in the community.
I spoke with Tie myself to learn more about her temperament and priorities and I came away impressed. She is focused on public safety, enhanced livability and community participation. I found her to be thoughtful, well-informed and ready to listen to a broad range of views. A vote for Connie “Tie” Gutierrez will be a vote for returning to thoughtful, common sense governance.

Connie “Tie” Gutierrez is the one and only choice.
When selecting a candidate, it’s essential to consider their ability to represent the entire district, especially one as diverse as District 5.
This district includes underrepresented groups such as people of color, the elderly and many of the unhoused, who are often overlooked. At the same time, District 5 is also home to what are considered affluent communities. Therefore, a candidate with a broad range of lived experiences is crucial to ensure fair representation for all.
Connie Tie Gutierrez, who has worked in corporate environments and with a variety of personalities, embodies that blend of experience and understanding, making her well-equipped to serve the diverse needs of District 5.
So, I will be casting my vote for Connie “Tie” Gutierrez.
